Here Stella and I are planning on using this image in our music video. Representing the person she is suppose to be singing about that has hurt her, however this image is ironic which could make the audience laugh, dismissing the serious concept of a girl rebelling societies idea of dealing with a heart break. So, we are contemplating on using a different image of a younger boy to represent her lover.

Audience Research

Today in class we were starting to prepare for our audience research questionnaire. we came up with ideas as to why we needed feedback from audiences.

I learnt today that the three main media theories about audiences are:
  • Hypodemic syringe/effect theory
  • Uses and gratification
  • Two-Step flow
These theories mean...

My Digipak

My artist has been placed on the front cover of my digitpak allowing the audience to have a familiarisation of the artist by seeing the artist on both the digipak and in the music video. I placed different images from the music video for the inside and the back cover of my digipak, I challeneged the conventions by using completly different images from my music video and not using similar images to make the digipak standout. The back of the cover is of the lights I filmed when the camera went out of focus, this demonstrates what the urban life is like at night time, a complete juxtaposition towards my calming front cover.

Setting up!

In the freezing cold, setting up the equipment such as the tripod, camera and fisheye lens in the car park. With the bright sun shining down, there was a lot of natural bright lighting that looked fantastic. The horizon was perfect for stella and the footage we have of her with the horizon in the back was amazing!

3rd day of filming! Vlog

A quick vlog of stella and myself before we started filming for our actual music video.

Finally, The Fisheye Lens!

Finally, Stella and myself were given the high definition fisheye lens for our camera for our music video. Here I am trying to work out how its works, what it looks like when on, and which way the lens connects to the camera. I realised the lens is bigger than the camera, so it means when using it I just have to hold it as I film Stella.

Inspirational Digipaks and What a Digipak is:

A digipak is a patented style of compact disc or DVD packaging, and is a registered trademark of AGI Media, a MeadWestvaco, Inc.

Our own digipak will be made from thick card and is shatterproof and allows amazing graphic display.
We are still contemplating on using gloss varnish or just card with a tone of 4 different printed colours (CMYK) or spot varnish to give a shiny effect.
The dimensions will be size of 139.5mm x 6mmx 125.5mm
We are only having 4 panels even though we could have up to 8 panels.
We will price our digipak at a reasonable price for everyone to buy.

Inspirational Video

My classmate Elisha Adams showed the class this inspirational video to everyone, and I liked it so much I just had to put it onto my blog too. The shots in this video are immaculate, and looks very professional. The only thing I don't like about this video is there is no lip syncing, however I put the video up because of the shots.

Inspirational Video

While I was at the BFI, Pete Fraser spoke about Jay Z's 99 problems video. I never realised how inspiring this video really was, it has well over 300 different camera shots and each time I watch the video I am finding something new in it. There are a lot of close up shots in this video of strangers that myself and Stella are planning on doing too.

Getting ready to head home from a long, productive day at the BFI which I enjoyed a lot. I learnt quite a lot for example having a lot of close up shots, which is important. Having more footage than what your suppose to (as back up), and I also learnt you don't have to follow your storyboard (for it to be exact) it's a guideline.

This is the class, waiting for Pete Fraser to come out and present his presentation to us about the coursework (music video).

Stella and myself while doing our blog about the BFI.

On our way to the BFI in South Bank with the class.

BFI

On Thursday 22nd November we went on a trip to the BFI in South Bank. We met a director called  'Corin Hardy' who gave us great tips on filming and story boarding, we also saw some of his work and footage he did, there was quite a few shots that did inspire me for my own music video. Pete Fraser also showed us old A2 music videos, some good and some bad, this gave us a good insight as to what Mr Fraser is looking for. I mad a lot of notes on what we need to do and what we shouldn't be doing, I'm looking forward to then end product now.

Signifiers

In this video of Rihanna Diamonds the signifier that is being portrayed are diamonds being signified of the finer things in life. And the love she shares with the lover she is singing about.

Theory on Signifier, signified, symbolic codes.

On Tuesday we learnt theories to do with Symbolic codes, Signifiers and the Signified.
Ferdinand Se Saussure's theory was that the signifier is the physical form which we can see or hear for example words, diagram, picture, music etc.
The signified is the meaning which we attach to the signifier i.e. learner driver - Symbol: L sign.
Roland Barthes added to this theory by Ferdinand and called the way that these Signifiers were organized and put together the 'Symbolic Codes'.Theory on

So Far...

So Far Stella and myself have started videoing for our music video, we do have a dealine which is the 27th Novemeber, I personally dont know how much we will have by then but if we keep on top of things as we are doing now, I don't see why we won't be finished filming by then. We have worked out our time schedule for filming and this week we shall start Wednesday as we finish early and Thursday from 12:00 as we have home study.

Inspirational Videos

I love this video because it is a great link for our video, the only difference is, we only have one singing artist and this song isn't a cliche. The dress sense in this video is the type of sense we shall be using in our video (including the make up). We will both be in our music video just like this video has done (near to the end).

More Ideas for the Video

I like these images because its very funky and fresh for our music video, we are also using split screen transition a lot and in this music video it has been used a lot to give an effect of a comic book theme.

Production Company

We came up with our production company and name of our brand first before the actual name of our song. This is because it was one of the easiest things to think of. We mixed two of our ideas to create our brand name which connects to our urban setting.

Ideas For Our Video

  • We have thought about using the fish eyed lense for our video, this gives an interactive suttle feel towards the music video.
  • We will be using a lot of spilt screen effects in our video as well as single screen shots.

Voyeuristic Videos

Voyeurism

Voyeurism is the sexual interest in or practice of spying on people engaged in intimate behaviors, such as undressing, sexual activity, or other actions usually considered to be of a private nature. The principal characteristic of voyeurism is that the voyeur does not normally relate directly with the subject of his/her interest, who is often unaware of being observed. Voyeurism may involve the making of a secret photograph or video of the subject during an intimate activity. When the interest in a particular subject is obsessive, the behavior may be described as stalking.

At the moment we are stuck on how to actually start story boarding, we have too many ideas to narrow down, and because of all these strong, bold ideas, we don't know when or how to start so I've decided to put a few videos up to give us an idea on how to begin it. Stooshe - Hot Stepper Little Mix - M&Ms Behind The Scene

Tuesday, 2 October 2012

This was the first ever storyboarding we did for AS media, it was very vague but detailed enough for us to understand. As you can see, we haven't used up all the boxes so that also tells us that it wasn't detailed enough, as we only used four boxes. However, we did explain each box we used.

Email Sent

Unfortunately I was unable to send the email to Atlantic Records with Stella Keh, however she did do it on behalf of the both of us which I'm extremely pleased about. This email was sent to see if it is okay to use their song based on our coursework and so far so good!

Here are Our Ideas for our chosen song by Delilah - Never Be Another

Tuesday, 11 September 2012

Idea Video 3

Good Points:

  • It's a narrative video.
  • It's a slow song so lip-syncing will be easy.
  • It's very urban so it can be realistic for us.
Bad Points:
  • It's a male vocalist.
  • It's going to be hard not to copy things from the video i.e the setting.
  • The artist is too well known.

Idea Video 2

Good Points:

  • Different scenes for the different scenarios.
  • It is another realistic narrative video.
  • female vocalist, so it will be realistic for us to lip-sync.
Bad Points:
  • There is a male rapper, will not be realist to lip-sync his verse.
  • Very hard to get a variety of locations.
  • Quite a fast song.

Idea Video 1

Good Points:

  • Two different paths leading to two different lifestyles.
  • It is a slow song, so it'll be easier to lip-sync in time.
  • The song choice is narrative.
Bad Points:
  • The concept of a music video could be lost through the narrative side.
  • The song There is only so much you can do with this song because of its chosen topic.
  • Hard to sing a male vocalist song and make it realistic.

Preliminary

R'n'B, Pop (Mixed Genre)

We have decided to choose R'n'B and Pop as our genre, because our group can easily relate to this style of music, as we all listen to it on a daily basis. R'n'B music has a specific type of hard beat that stands out from any other type of music, such as indie which is a very generic style of music or Rock'n'Roll which is a very messy and noisy type of music. Pop is a generic genre that will attract anyone to view my music video.

Theorists

"A star is an image constructed (as any other aspect of fiction) from a range of materials e.g. advertising and magazines as well as films and music" - Richard Dyer.

Thoughts Out Loud

We have been contemplating on whether or not we should do an easy genre such as R'n'B because we are familiar with these conventions however the implications of doing this genre is the costumes for this genre, such as using big fast cars, huge mansions however we are also considering doing an indie genre as indie connects with almost anything, the costume is simple and could be presented through a middle class or low class area.

3 Video Music Videos I Love!

R'N'B POP GENRE

I chose Beyonce - Move Your Body because of the hardcore energy presented by  everyone in the video, it also relates to me because of the younger generation apart of the video. The close up shots cleverly present Beyonce's vibrant green socks. The artificial lighting attracted me to this video also, because it isn't bright, it is quite dull because of the smokey effect in the dining hall which allows the students to stand out with Beyonce. By everyone wearing white tops, it juxtaposes the colourful mise-en-scene this also allows the students to stand out. I also love that there are a variety of ages and genders and not just one gender being presented.

I chose Rihanna - We Found Love because of the rebellious conventions used such as smoking and running around wildly in the streets. This is because usually content such as these are never shown in music videos, which takes the audience to a surprise. There are also a lot of sexual content that is shown which is unusual because music videos don't usually show this. The implications of the videos with the sexual and smoking content could influence the younger generation to do the same. I also love that both genders are rebelling and not just one.

I chose Chris Brown - Beautiful People because of the young energy presented. There are also all different ages being shown with different costumes being worn and transportations used. I don't like there are mainly men in this video, however the song is cleverly aimed at both genders by using the generic collective noun 'beautiful people'. The fast pace panning shots attracted me to choose this video and I plan on using these conventions in my own video.

Who is Andrew Goodwin?

I am very excited to start media A2, and shall be looking forward to watching and analysing lots of music videos.
